University Grants Commission (UGC): The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a warning, cautioning students against pursuing Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programs from universities. This warning comes after UGC canceled MPhil courses, despite which some universities are adamant on offering it.
UGC Secretary Manish Joshi said that students were cautioned not to take admission in any MPhil program offered by universities. MPhil degree is not recognised. UGC has asked universities to take immediate steps to stop admissions for the 2024-25 session.
UGC had earlier declared MPhil degree illegal and directed higher educational institutions not to offer MPhil programme. Apart from this, universities were directed to stop admission to MPhil programs for the academic year 2023-24.
