The ban on hijab in Karnataka is now going to be lifted.  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced that Karnataka government officials have been asked to withdraw the ban on hijab in the state.  On microblogging site X, he said that choosing clothes is one's own prerogative.  He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of dividing the society on the basis of clothes, attire and caste.
The Bharatiya Janata Party government had banned wearing hijab in schools and colleges in Karnataka.  There was a lot of uproar regarding this.  The matter even reached the High Court.  Now this ban is being removed after the Congress government came to power in the state.  There was a month-long controversy in the state after the BJP's Basavaraj Bommai-led government banned hijab in educational institutions in 2022.  After petitions were filed against the order, the Karnataka High Court also upheld the decision of the BJP government.
