Union Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh addressed a press conference at the NHPC's rest house at 6 pm on Monday after the agitation by various parties and organizations over the construction of the lower Sovansiri Hydropower Project. He said the lower Suvansiri Hydropower Project will start production within the next six months.
The minister reiterated that the 30 km long protection work of the southern section of the dam has been completed. 450 crore has been allocated for the remaining additional works. He said the drying up of the Sovansiri river due to the dam will not happen again in the future. As hydropower has become essential for the rapid development of India, it has been decided to start work on a new project to generate 13,000 MW of hydropower in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
