Mahabharata and Ramayana will be included in school books, NCERT panel recommends

Ramayana-Mahabharata In school textbooks: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) had constituted a high-level committee to revise the school curriculum of Social Sciences.  The committee has recommended inclusion of epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata in text books and writing the Preamble of the Constitution on the walls of classrooms in schools.  Committee Chairman CI Issac gave this information on Tuesday (21 November).
Issac stressed that it is important to teach Ramayana and Mahabharata to students of classes 7 to 12.  He said, "The committee has emphasized on teaching epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata to the students in the social science syllabus. We believe that during adolescence, the student develops self-respect, patriotism and pride for his nation."
