Indian Air Force News: It is very difficult to find such a husband-wife pair in which both are three-star generals.  Dr. Sadhna Saxena Nair was promoted to the post of Air Marshal in the Indian Air Force on Monday.  According to the Air Force, Air Marshal Nair took over as Director General, Hospital Services (Armed Forces) after promotion to the post of Air Marshal.  She has become the first woman officer to hold this prestigious post.
Nair's husband, Air Marshal KP Nair, was a fighter pilot who retired as the Director General of Inspection and Flight Safety of the Indian Air Force in 2015.
According to TOI report, an officer said, 'They are the first and only Air Marshal couple of the Indian Air Force.' However, they are the second three-star couple in the Indian Armed Forces.  Lieutenant-General Madhuri Kanitkar and her husband Lieutenant-General Rajeev Kanitkar were the first couple to receive three stars in the Indian Army.
Three generations of Air Marshal Sadhna Nair's family have the distinction of serving the Indian Air Force for the last seven decades.  His father and brother were also doctors in the Indian Air Force, while his son is a fighter pilot (Feet Lieutenant).
Nair is the second woman officer to have served in the Indian Air Force until being promoted to the post of Air Marshal.  The first woman officer to achieve this feat was Air Marshal (retd) Padma Bandopadhyay.  Another woman doctor to reach the three-star rank was Naval Surgeon Vice Admiral Punita Arora (retd).
After graduating from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, Nair joined the Indian Air Force in December 1985.  He has a post-graduate degree in Family Medicine.
