Center asked for extension on appointments of judges

Nationaldesk:

The Central Government has sought two weeks' time from the Court to take a decision on the appointment and transfer of judges in High Courts as recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium.  The five names repeated in the collegium's letter, five new names recommended for judgeships and recommendations for transfer of 11 judges to the High Court are pending before the Centre.

During the hearing, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said that suppose there are four names.  You inform three and stop one so this should not happen.  Although some people have accepted it and some have retreated in frustration.  We have lost many good names in this process.  In some of them I do not think that there are any serious issues for the government which should not have been considered.

When someone is appointed and someone else is not, or someone else is appointed later, the whole concept of seniority goes awry.  The Supreme Court heard a plea seeking contempt action against the Union Ministry of Law and Justice for not adhering to the court-set deadline in 2021 for approving collegium resolutions.
