The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced the Nobel Prize 2023 for Economics. It has been decided to award the 2023 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Claudia Goldin. She has been awarded this honor for advancing or developing our understanding of women's labor market outcomes.
Claudia Goldin has worked to provide the first comprehensive account of women's earnings and labor market participation over centuries. Their research revealed the reasons for the change and the main sources of the remaining gender gap. Their research shows that women are vastly underrepresented in the global labor market and when they do work, they earn less than men. Goldin trawled through archives and collected over 200 years of data, leading her to prove how and why the gender gap in earnings and employment rates changed.
