 Birth and education::

 Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8 September 1926 in Sadia, Assam.  His father's name was Nilkanta Hazarika and his mother's name was Shantipriya Hazarika.  He completed his early education from Guwahati.  Then he entered Banaras Hindu University for further studies.  In the year 1944, Hazarika graduated with honors and in the year 1946 obtained a post-graduate degree.  Bhupen Hazarika then received his Ph.D. in Mass Communications from Columbia University.  
 Hazarika started writing and singing songs from an early age.  He wrote his first song when he was just 10 years old.  Once Bhupen was singing the Assamese folk song Borgit at a function in Tezpur.  During this time, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, known as Kalaguru, was greatly influenced by Bhupen's songs.  In 1939, at the age of 12, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala had Bhupen Hazarika record two songs for the Assamese film Indramaloti.
 Bhupen Hazarika's voice has amazing magic.  Whoever hears his songs becomes a devotee of him.  He sang in several languages ​​including Assamese, Hindi and Bengali.  Bhupen Hazarika has sung in superhit films like 'Mil Gayi Manzil Mujhe', 'Gazgamini', 'Darmiyan', 'Rudali', 'Saaz', 'Daman', and 'Kyon'.  Hazarika wrote more than 1,000 songs and 15 books.
 Bhupen Hazarika was awarded the National Film Award in 1975 for his outstanding contribution to films.  In 1992, Hazarika was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in the film industry.  He was awarded the Assam Ratna in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in  Then in 2019, Bhupen Hazarika was awarded the country's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.
