CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced 5 new project after another in Kachar district. CM declared Katigara , Barkhala, Udarband and Sonai as new sub-divisions. He also announced that GC College, Shillong will be given full university status in the upcoming session of the Assembly.
Chief Minister inaugurated three concrete bridges on the Barak and Sonai rivers in Shillong on Thursday morning. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Thursday inaugurated the Badri bridge connecting Paylapul and Sonai on the Barak river and the Itkhalaghat bridge connecting Shilchar and Barkhala Dudhpatil and the paved bridge constructed on the Sonai river in Sonai constituency.
Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the Integrated DC Office Complex at Ghungur at a cost of Rs 48 crore. Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of a new convention center to be constructed in Shilkuri on the same day. CM also inaugurated a newly constructed statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan at the District Commissioner's office premises on Thursday.
The Chief Minister then inaugurated 75 water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission at the 5th Jal Jeevan Conference held at the District Sports Association ground. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for upgradation of 21 km of Shillong-Kalain road to four-lane road at a cost of Rs 210 crore under the Assam Mala Project.
The Chief Minister also announced several new projects for the development of Kachar district, including the construction of another concrete bridge over the Barak River at Shilghat in Shilchar. The Chief Minister also announced the construction of another new concrete bridge at Madhuraghat in Shilchar to connect Shillong and Dudhpatil.
Chief Minister said the government is making efforts to construct three new flyovers to free Shillong city from traffic congestion. Chief Minister said feasibility studies have already been launched for construction of a 3 km flyover from Ramnagar to Trunk Road, another 2.3 km flyover from Capital Point to Rangirkhari and a 1 km elevated overbridge on Tarapur Shibbari Road.
