ISRO chief Dr. S.S. Somnath said after the successful launch of Aditya-L1 that Chandrayaan-3 rover Pragyan has so far traveled 100 meters on the lunar surface. Both the Vikram lander and the rover are in good health. All payloads of both are way working.
Earlier, the rover had taken spectacular photos of the Vikram lander. He had also changed course to avoid the pothole in front of him. Pictures he is taking with navigation camera (NavCam). This camera is developed by the Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems (LEOS). The Pragyan rover has these two navcams on one side. In fact, the total weight of the rover is 26 kg. It is three feet long, 2.5 feet wide and 2.8 feet high. Runs on six wheels.
The rover's target was to travel 500 meters before the moon was completed. He is constantly moving at a speed of one centimeter per second. It will work on the surface of the moon for the next 5-6 days until it receives energy from the sun.
