Railway Board: Jaya Verma Sinha will be the first woman CEO and Chairman of the Railway Board

The Cabinet Appointments Committee has approved the appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha as the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board.  Sinha will replace Anil Kumar Lahoti as the new Chairman and CEO (Railway Board) and will assume office on September 1,  She is also the first woman chairperson of the Railway Board.  Vijayalakshmi Vishwanathan was the first woman member of the Railway Board.
   A 1988 batch Indian Railway Traffic Service officer, Sinha is currently serving as a Railway Board Member (Operations and Business Development).  She will take charge of the board at a time when the Indian Railways has received a record budgetary allocation from the central government.
   The Union Budget 2023-24 has allocated capital outlay of Rs 2.74 lakh crore to Indian Railways.  This is the highest allocation ever made to the national transporter.  The gross budgetary allocation for the railways in FY 2022-23 was Rs 1.37 lakh crore.
