India-China Standoff: India and China will hold the 19th round of commander-level talks on August 14 (Monday). During the meeting, the two countries will hold talks with military officials on ending the deadlock on the eastern border from Ladakh.
The two countries have already held 18 rounds of commander-level talks. The Times of India quoted sources as saying that the 19th round of talks is likely to be on the Indian side in the Chushul-Moldo region. In the next sequence of top-level military talks, India may insist on troop disengagement from the strategically important Depsang and Demchok regions of eastern Ladakh.
The talks between the two countries come at a time when China's military activities on the Leader of Actual Control (LAC) have increased this summer. Fire and Fury Corps Commander Lt Gen Rashim Bali will lead the Indian side for talks with Chinese military representatives on August 14.
External Affairs Ministry and ITBP officials are also expected to participate in the talks. The two sides are expected to discuss issues related to DBO and CNN junctions as well as other matters. India will also press for the withdrawal of troops from the eastern Ladakh front.
