Chandrayaan-3 will enter lunar orbit on the birthday of US astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. ISRO said the spacecraft will enter lunar orbit on Saturday evening. The spacecraft will enter lunar orbit on Saturday evening, ISRO said.
The spacecraft will slowly rotate and slow down to a distance of 100 km from the lunar surface. This will be the beginning of the difficult phase of ISRO's Chandrayaan-3
The rover Pragyan will be ejected from the belly of the lander Vikram at 5.47 pm Indian time on August 23. From there, it will be slowly landed on the moon like the wings of a bird.
Four years ago, ISRO's Chandrayaan-2 mission failed at this stage. Chandrayaan-3 was successfully launched from the launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 2.35 pm on July14.
The ISRO spacecraft has already successfully orbited five times. The spacecraft will change seven orbits and enter the lunar gravitational field on Saturday evening, ISRO sources said.
But there are several other paths that must be crossed with ultimate success. If the lander Vikram of Chandrayaan-3 successfully touches the lunar surface and lands the rover Pragyan properly, the Indian space mission will take it to a new level.
In the past decade, no other country has successfully landed a spacecraft on the moon after China. India will be the fourth country in the list after the United States, Russia and China.
Experts believe that even if for some reason the spacecraft fails to reach the moon due to a mathematical error, the spacecraft will return to Earth orbit. But it cannot be returned to lunar orbit.
In that sense, Chandrayaan-3 will be considered a lost mission or a 'failed mission' Scientists will try to bring back Chandrayaan-3.
