Violence and arson again in Manipur, 3 members of Maitei community killed

Violence has once again erupted in Manipur.  Three members of the Maitei community were killed in Bishnupur district on Friday night.  The rioters also set several houses on fire.
Three members of the Maitei community were killed, Bishnupur police said.  In addition, the houses of the Kuki community have been set on fire.  Police sources said some people crossed the buffer zone and entered the Maitei areas and opened fire in the Maitei areas.  Central forces have created a buffer zone up to two km from Kwakta area in Bishnupur district.
Earlier, the situation in Bishnupur had become tense after firing at several places on Thursday evening.  The unruly crowd also clashed with security forces.  Security forces destroyed seven illegal bunkers, Manipur police said.
 According to sources, an uncontrolled mob attacked the posts of the second IRB unit in Bishnupur district and looted several weapons including ammunition.  The crowd tried to snatch weapons and ammunition from the 2nd and 7TU battalions of the Manipur Rifles but were repelled by security forces, Manipur police said.
