The central government's Project Cheetah has suffered another blow.  A female cheetah has died in Kuno National Park.  Since March 26, nine cheetahs, including three cubs, have died.  The cheetahs were brought to Kuno National Park from South Africa and Namibia.  The Environment Ministry and the National Tiger Conservation Authority are facing criticism over the death of the cheetahs.  Besides, the Supreme Court had also expressed concern.
The death of the female cheetah has been confirmed by a Kuno official.  Recently, the Supreme Court had asked the "Center to rise above mutual politics and think of shifting the cheetahs to Rajasthan.  You cannot ignore the fact that the opposition Congress is in government in Rajasthan.  Why don't you find a good place there?"
The Supreme Court had expressed concern
The country's highest court said then that about 40 per cent of cheetahs imported from Namibia and Africa had succumbed so far.  They have been in India for less than a year, thus the death of the cheetahs is a matter of concern.
