Violence in the northeastern state of Manipur is not abating. Tensions rose again in the area on Monday. Mobs set houses on fire in New Lambulen area of the capital Imphal. Army and paramilitary forces rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.
Curfew has once again been imposed in the state as violence erupts. Curfew was imposed in the state from 6 am to 2 pm on Monday. The internet has also been shut down for five days after reports of the arson.
Violent clashes reportedly took place in New Chekan Bazar area of Imphal on Monday morning. Police have arrested three people after the arson incidents surfaced. Army personnel have been deployed in the area to control the situation.
According to an order issued by the Manipur Home Department, internet services are being banned for the next five days, till May 26, to prevent the spread of any kind of propaganda and rumours.
