International Desk:
After long negotiations with Russia, Pakistan, like India, is buying cheap oil from Russia. Pakistan is the third country after India and China to buy large quantities of crude oil from Russia despite US sanctions. Pakistan has ordered the first shipment of Russian crude at concessional prices, Petroleum Minister Musadik Milk said last week. The US has responded to Pakistan's move.
The US State Department said the US had no objection to Pakistan's decision. During a weekly briefing on Tuesday, U.S. State Department spokesman Vedanta Patel said each country has to make its own sovereign decisions for its energy supplies. We have never tried to keep Russian energy (oil and gas) out of the market.
During the press briefing, when Vedanta Patel was asked, "Pakistan has recently ordered the first shipment of Russian crude oil. What is your reaction to that?"
A US State Department spokesman responded by saying, "Since, this issue relates to energy supply, all countries are making their autonomous decisions. Price caps imposed on Russian oil by the US and G-7 countries." "The aim was to control Russian oil rather than exclude it from the energy market because we are aware that there is a demand for crude oil supply. But we need to make sure that Putin uses this energy market." Don't do it as a war machine. We are reiterating once again that we never tried to keep Russian energy off the market."
