BBC chairman Richard Sharpe has resigned. He made the move after a report alleged violations of government regulations pertaining to government appointments. The report also revealed that Richard was instrumental in arranging a loan for former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. He will remain in office until the end of June. During this time, his successor will be sought.
"I have decided that it is right to prioritize the interests of the BBC, so I have resigned this morning to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Board as chairman of the BBC," Sharpe said in a statement, the BBC reported .
Sharpe admitted he had a meeting of the country’s most senior civil servant, Cabinet Secretary Simon Case and Mr Johnson’s distant cousin Sam Belyth, who offered financial support to the then PM in late 2020 .
"The report found I had breached the code of governance for public appointments but this breach does not necessarily invalidate the appointment," Sharp said, according to the BBC .
