Russia Ukraine Conflict and Global South Concern: Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Russia. There he met with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. In this meeting, Jaishankar raised the issue of Ukraine war and appealed to Russia to return to the negotiating table. He said that because of this war, the Global South is 'paining with great pain'. During this, Jaishankar also became emotional. Let us tell you that India is now going to chair the G-20 group. During this time his focus is expected to be on peace and prosperity in the Global South. India is constantly becoming the voice of the Global South on the global stage. Let us know in detail about the Global South whose pain filled the eyes of External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.
The Global South is a term used for developing and less developed countries in Latin American, Asian, African and Oceania regions. Most of these countries have become independent from their colonial rule. The Global South favors inter-regional and multilateral coalitions based on the 1955 Bandung Conference, the Non-Aligned Movement and the United Nations G-77. This forum promotes cooperation between nations. In addition it provides a platform of resistance against neo-colonialism. The word South was first used by the United Nations in the 1960s. After the Cold War, the word 'global' was added to it. So it is clear that the Global South does not mean the countries of the South of the world.
Leaders of the Global South started becoming active in world politics in the 1990s. Because India is also a part of the Global South, in such a situation, it has been continuously raising the voice of the weak countries. The worst effect of the Russia-Ukraine war is on poor and underdeveloped countries. Most of these countries are from the Global South. This is the reason why India is constantly appealing to Russia to come to the negotiating table. Due to this war, inflation is increasing all over the world, there is also a shortage of food and drink.
