The Indian Air Force recently used its Mi-17 V5 helicopter equipped with Bambi buckets to tackle a forest fire near Nainital, demonstrating the versatility and effectiveness of aerial firefighting operations in challenging terrain.
Introduced in 1983 and invented by Canadian Don Arnie, the Bambi bucket revolutionized aerial firefighting by enabling helicopters to carry large volumes of water beneath the aircraft, thus a faster and more efficient means of extinguishing forest fires from the air  was available.
