Geetanjali Iyer, India's first female news presenter in English on Doordarshan, died on Wednesday.  She was over 70 years old.  Sources close to her family said the award-winning presenter was suffering from Parkinson's disease and had fainted while returning home after a walk.  
 "Deeply saddened to hear of the passing away of Geetanjali Iyer, one of the first and finest English news anchors on Doordarshan and All India Radio," Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said in a tweet.  He said Iyer brought "credibility, professionalism and a distinct voice" to every news report.
